Myspace China haz got problemz

Apparently the chief executive of China's Myspace resigned, according to this article in the NYTs. Why is this a big deal?

Now we can only speculate why this happened, but my main unofficial guess is that it's hard to open up a social network that allows people to say what they want about what they want and to share those thoughts in a communist country.

China is notorious for thier "Great Firewall" which blocks and edits countless websites. Mr. Luo, the Chief Executive of Myspace China, after a year resigned.

I work in digital and social media field. I understand why there was/is such success behind websites like myspace and facebook. And I completely understand why these sites are extremely difficult to become popular in such a controlling country.

How could Mr. Luo be expected by Newscorp to turn around to make the social networking site as powerful and as popular and open to freespeech as Myspace America is?

In a way I'm glad it is failing. I don't like to think that Rupert Murdoch and Newscorp are getting their hands in China's semi-untapped power.
